阳货欲见孔子，孔子不见，归孔子豚。孔子时其亡也，而往拜之，遇诸涂。谓孔子曰，来，予与尔言。曰，怀其宝而迷其邦，可谓仁乎。曰，不可。好从事而亟失时，可谓知乎。曰，不可。日月逝矣，岁不我与。孔子曰，诺，吾将仕矣。

阳货想让孔子去拜见他，孔子不去见，他便送给孔子一只熟乳猪。孔子趁他不在家的时候，前去回拜他，不料在路上遇见了他。阳货对孔子说：来，我有话对你说。他说：怀藏着才德却听任国家迷乱，这可以叫作仁吗？孔子答：不可以。阳货说：喜欢做官从政却屡次错过时机，这可以叫作智吗？孔子答：不可以。阳货说：时光一天天过去了，岁月是不等人的啊。孔子说：好吧，我将要出来做官了。

1. Yang Ho wished to see Confucius, but Confucius would not go to see him.
