孔子于乡党，恂恂如也，似不能言者。其在宗庙朝廷，便便言，唯谨尔。
白话导读
孔子在本乡的父老乡亲中间，显得温和恭顺，好像不太会说话的样子。他在宗庙和朝廷里，却说话明白流畅，只是态度很谨慎。

1. Confucius, in his village, looked simple and sincere, and as if he were not able to speak. 2. When he was in the prince's ancestorial temple, or in the court, he spoke minutely on every point, but cautiously.
