逸民，伯夷，叔齐，虞仲，夷逸，朱张，柳下惠，少连。子曰，不降其志，不辱其身，伯夷叔齐与。谓柳下惠，少连，降志辱身矣。言中伦，行中虑，其斯而已矣。谓虞仲，夷逸，隐居放言，身中清，废中权。我则异于是，无可无不可。

避世的隐士有伯夷、叔齐、虞仲、夷逸、朱张、柳下惠、少连。孔子说：不降低自己的志向，不辱没自己的身份，大概就是伯夷、叔齐吧。他评论柳下惠、少连说：他们降低了志向，辱没了身份，但言语合乎伦理，行为合乎人心，也不过如此罢了。他评论虞仲、夷逸说：他们避世隐居，放言不羁，立身清白，弃官合乎权变。我却同这些人都不一样，没有什么一定要这样，也没有什么一定不这样。

1. The men who have retired to privacy from the world have been Po-i, Shu-ch'i, Yu-chung, I-yi, Chu-chang, Hui of Liu-hsia, and Shao-lien. 2.
